Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo Joins Aggie Partners to Support OPSU Rodeo
By Chyanna Black, Executive Director of Panhandle State Foundation
GUYMON, Okla. – Each spring, thousands of rodeo fans, contestants, and families make their way to the Oklahoma Panhandle for the Doc Gardner Memorial College Rodeo and Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo, two of the most community-driven events in the region. Behind the arena lights, grandstands, and world-class performances is a partnership built on hard work, teamwork, and hometown pride between the Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo Committee and the Oklahoma Panhandle State University Rodeo Team.
This year, the Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo Committee joined the Panhandle State Foundation & OPSU Alumni & Friends Aggie Partners Program, an initiative that strengthens OPSU through annual support for scholarships of academic or athletic programs. Funds from this partnership will directly benefit the OPSU Rodeo Team, helping provide critical scholarship assistance and program support that ensure student-athletes can compete and succeed at the highest levels.
“The support from the Pioneer Days Rodeo Committee means the world to our team,” said Shelbie Rose, Head Coach of the OPSU Rodeo Team. “Our student-athletes work hard both in and out of the arena, and by becoming an Aggie Partner the committee is showing them they believe in them more than just in the classroom. It’s that type of support that keeps us competing at a championship level. We’re so thankful for the committee’s continued support and everything they do for our program and our community.”
The connection between OPSU Rodeo and the Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo runs deep. Each year, the team plays a key role in the success of the rodeo, working behind the scenes during slack, assisting in performances, and helping ensure the event runs seamlessly. Their involvement allows committee members and volunteers to focus on creating a top-notch experience for contestants and spectators alike.
“Without the help of the OPSU Rodeo Team, our rodeo couldn’t happen the way it does,” said one committee member. “They bring the same work ethic and drive to Pioneer Days that they show at college rodeos all year long. It’s truly a partnership that strengthens both the event and the community.”
Together, the Pioneer Days Committee and OPSU Rodeo bring an incredible economic and cultural impact to Guymon each spring. From hospitality and lodging to local businesses and youth involvement, both groups play a vital role in showcasing the Panhandle’s pride, tradition, and unmatched hospitality.
By becoming an Aggie Partner, the Guymon Pioneer Days Rodeo Committee is continuing that legacy, investing not only in the success of the annual rodeo but in the next generation of rodeo champions and community leaders who proudly carry on “A Winning Tradition.”
